Recruiting at the Staff Bank
Start your Career with NHS Lothian & Borders Today.
We accept internal and external applications to join the Staff Bank. Recruitment to the Staff Bank is co-ordinated and managed by a dedicated Staff Bank Recruitment Team. Adverts run monthly (first week of the month) on the national JobTrain website for both internal and external applicants. No applications will be accepted unless from a submission through JobTrain. Unfortunately, late applications cannot be accepted through this system.

Internal
If you currently hold a substantive post in NHS Lothian or Borders, you are eligible to apply for the same position on the Staff Bank.
This is a much quicker process than applying externally as there is not a requirement to be interviewed.
Please discuss with your line manager if you are interested in joining the Staff Bank. You may only apply for roles that pay the equivalent to your current banding or below, and you must have passed your 12-week probationary period.
External
If you do not currently hold a substantive post in NHS Lothian or Borders please check the SHOW website to see if we are currently recruiting.
Tip – Make sure ‘Staff Bank’ is in the title of the job role, and make either ‘NHS Lothian’ or ‘NHS Borders’ as your region.
Application forms can be downloaded from the SHOW website or telephone the Staff Bank Recruitment Office on 0131 536 2020.
Tip: While we recognise that advances in AI have made it a widely used tool, we strongly discourage relying on it when completing your application. Please use it only as a source of inspiration, ensuring that your submission reflects your own ideas, skills, and experiences.
