Dental Nurses are part of a multi-disciplinary team made up of consultants, dentists, therapists, and non-clinical staff. They can work in a variety of areas of dentistry which include general dental practice, oral surgery, orthodontics, restorative and paediatrics.
A Modern Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing
As a Modern Apprentice – Dental Nurse you would work under the Oral Health Services which is hosted by West Lothian and Social Care Partnerships. Some of your duties will involve preparing patients for dental treatments, caring for them before, during and after treatment whilst giving them emotional, physical support and encouragement to ensure comfort which makes the treatment easier for everyone. You would also be responsible for dental charting and writing up patient records under the instruction of clinicians. You also would layout units and be responsible for the maintenance of equipment and instruments whilst ensuring adequate stock is maintained.
What will you gain from a Modern Apprenticeship role in Dental Nursing?
This Modern Apprenticeship programme covers 18 months, and you will gain a SVQ Level 3 Dental Nursing and SQA PDA Dental Nursing. You will embed these learnings into practice whilst developing valuable skills and experiences. To be considered for a Modern Apprenticeship as a Dental Nurse, you need:
- To be aged between 17 and 24 years of age (or 29 is you are care experienced or have a disability).
- National 5s or above in English or Science at C grade or above. A National 4 or above in Maths. Alternatively, if you have achieved NPA Oral Health SCQF Level 5/6.
- Have a passion for healthcare.
