Business and Administration

Business and Administration cover a wide range of roles from Receptionists, Administration Assistants & Officers, Medical Secretaries, Personal Assistants, Directorate Assistants, Communication Officers, Project Support Officers, Project Managers and more! These roles are based in a variety of services and can be patient and non-patient facing. They are an essential part of the NHS and ensures that healthcare runs efficiently and smoothly every day.

Modern Apprenticeships in Business and Administration

Depending on the role you are offered and where you are based, some of the responsibilities might include, using specialised software to book patient appointments, processing referrals, typing medical letters & discharge notes, and responding to telephone, email & face to face queries from patients, carers and relatives. You also might place orders and record meeting minutes. You would do this all by working as part of a wider team made up medical, clinical and non-clinical staff.

What will you gain from a Modern Apprenticeship role in Business and Administration?

You will gain a SVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration and embed the learnings into practice. You will develop valuable skills and experiences. Interested in applying?

To be considered for a Modern Apprenticeship in Business and Administration, you need:

  • To be between 16 to 24 years of age (or 29 if you have a disability or are care experienced)
  • National 4s or above in English and Maths or core skills at level 4 grade C or above, which were achieved with another qualification. Alternatively, a Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills, Financial Services or Accountancy.
  • Evidence of working as part of a team which could have been gained from prior work experience, within education, any volunteering you may have done or if you have completed any awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh.
  • A passion for healthcare.
  • To align with NHS Lothian Values and work to these every day.
