There are approximately 9,000 births per year within NHS Lothian. The midwives work across all areas of midwifery so providing a high quality integrated service across primary and secondary care. Hospital services are provided within SJH and the RIE which is a tertiary maternity and neonatal unit for the South East Region of Scotland. The Lothian Birth Centre provides low risk midwifery led care at the RIE site. The hospital service is supported by 10 community midwifery teams and outreach consultant services.
