Our oncology gynaecology team provide specialist services for patients within NHS Lothian,
The Borders, Fife and Dumfries and Galloway as part of the South East Scotland Cancer Network. Clinical nurse specialists provide support to patients and their families as well as coordinating care from referral, diagnosis, treatment planning and post treatment follow up. Care coordination involves liaising with members of the multidisciplinary team as well as third party agencies. The team consist of Surgical clinical nurse specialists and Prehabilitation/ERAS (Enhanced Recovery ) nurse.
Colposcopy
Colposcopy is a specialist examination carried out in the gynaecology outpatients department, by specialist nurses or gynaecologists, in the RIE. We see people with abnormal cervical smear results, and others referred into the specialty with concerning symptoms.
Urogynaecology
The nurse specialists work autonomously making decisions to treat the health needs of patients with bladder and pelvic floor dysfunction.
The nurses work closely with consultants and physiotherapists to promote the best outcome for these patients.
