Fetal Medicine team are a specialist multidisciplinary team, based within the RIE, providing care for patients across Lothian and those with high risk pregnancies across East of Scotland.
There are Day Assessment units within both the SJH and RIE providing outpatient assessment and monitoring for pregnant patients across Lothian. Midwives provide care and fetal well being monitoring within both units.
Antenatal clinics are specialist consultant led clinics within both hospitals and supported by midwifery staff. Community midwives also provide antenatal care for patients within their scope of practice.
Obstetric Triage and Assessment is based within the RIE and provides unscheduled maternity care. This unit is similar to an emergency department for maternity care. Staffing is provided by both midwives and obstetricians and training is provided within the service for all staff working in this unit. SJH staff triage patients within their day assessment unit or inpatient areas.
