There are 2 inpatient wards within the RIE and 1 within SJH. Ward 211 (RIE) is predominantly postnatal and Ward 119 in the RIE and ward 11 in SJH are combined antenatal and postnatal wards.
Staff have a variety of opportunities to develop their skills in caring for patients with more complex health and social needs. SJH is a general hospital whilst the RIE is a tertiary unit so accepts admissions from many different units across Scotland. Staff have opportunities to work in Multidisciplinary teams including specialist allied healthcare workers and expand their skills in e.g. provision of contraceptive devices and implants, induction of labour and routine examination of the newborn, to name but a few.
