Work Experience for Secondary School Students
Are you a young person interested in Medicine, Dentistry, Midwifery or Nursing? Click here to learn on the Step Into Healthcare Programme which offers a structured opportunity to explore these fields through interactive workshops and practical sessions.

Work Experience for Adult (Applicants not in Secondary School)
- Explore: Take some time to peruse our website, read about our culture, and learn more about the areas that interest you.
- Apply: We encourage applicants to independently source their placements. If you’re seeking a placement, you should reach out directly to the department or area of interest. They will then work with you to negotiate the content and duration of the placement. As soon as a placement opportunity is confirmed, you can complete the appropriate application form and return to us.
Alternatively, send an email to us at loth.workexperience@nhs.scot with sufficient information on your request. We will work on sourcing a placement for you. This process takes up to 8 weeks and we cannot guarantee that we will always secure a placement for you. - Start Your Journey: Once your application is approved, you’ll embark on your work experience adventure with NHS Lothian!!
