Gynaecology

Gynaecology Care within NHS Lothian is a large, diverse and innovative directorate providing General Gynaecology Care within Edinburgh and West Lothian as well as providing regional specialities. We offer a robust induction programme and numerous training and development opportunities for Band 3-7 nurses.

Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Ward 210 gynaecology ward is a 20 bedded ward which has 2 daybeds and 18 inpatients. The ward caters for patients requiring general inpatient gynaecology care as well as more specialist post oncology surgical care.

Edinburgh Fertility Centre is a specialist fertility centre catering for patients across mainly the South East of Scotland with a variety of fertility and reproductive endocrine needs within outpatient, operating theatre and recovery setting.

Pregnancy Support Centre is a nurse led centre which provides care and support for patients in the first trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy Support Centre is a dynamic, nurse led service providing care and support for couples with difficulties in the first trimester of pregnancy. With the majority of patients experiencing pregnancy loss the nursing team work holistically to provide both physical care and bereavement care. Emergency early pregnancy ultrasound scanning takes place within the department allowing for a seamless pathway to diagnosis. Early pregnancy care is a recognised speciality within gynaecology which is led by this small, dedicated team of specialist nurses. This area will appeal to those nurses who are attracted by the opportunity to become experts in early pregnancy and who are seeking to practice with a high level of autonomy.

Clinical Nurse Specialist care is also provided within both outpatient and inpatient setting. These include gynaecology oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology.
