Who we are
NHS Lothian is Scotland’s second largest health board and serves a population of approximately 850,000 people living in Edinburgh and the Lothians. We employ around 24,000 staff, and provide a full range of primary, community and acute hospital services.

In NHS Lothian, electricians are part of the estates department and work in hospitals, health centres and other social care facilities. They role includes making sure that electrical systems, instruments, and equipment are safe and in good working order and finding and fixing electrical faults.
Key result areas include:
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of the workings of the mechanical and/or electrical systems in NHS buildings
- Carrying out fault investigation and repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; this requires a high degree of skill and knowledge from other disciplines
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance using job cards provided, completing all records and documentation required
- Working to Divisions Health and Safety and Technical Policies
- Carrying out installation work as described on job planning packs
- Carrying out electrical circuit testing after installation work, in accordance with 18th addition IEE regulations
- Carrying out precision machining tasks on Milling Machine and Lathe. This will require the use of precision instruments and working to tight tolerances
- Within the Health & Safety framework – requirement to carry out risk assessments and act as a Key Worker under the Manual Handling Policy
- Carrying out calibration of equipment or systems, adjust parameters and report on deviations from specification.
