Critical Care within NHS Lothian is a large, diverse and innovative directorate providing General Adult Intensive and High Dependency care on three sites within Edinburgh and West Lothian as well as providing national and regional specialities. We offer a robust induction programme and numerous training and development opportunities for Band 3-7 nurses, including professional development awards and specific critical care courses at SCQF level 9-11.
Western General Hospital
Ward 20 ICU is a 10 bedded combined unit. The Western General is a leading hospital in the treatment of Cancer and Haematological conditions for the East of Scotland. State of the art car-T therapy delivered here as well as the regional specialities of infectious diseases, urology and colorectal.
Ward 52 Surgical High Dependency is a 10 bedded HDU specialising in the care of colorectal and urology patients. The Colorectal Unit at the Western is one of the largest dedicated specialist centres for colorectal surgery.
St Johns Hospital, Livingston
St Johns ICU/HDU is combined 7 bedded Critical Care Unit specialising in ENT, maxillofacial, head and neck, obstetrics, burns and plastic surgery. As well as providing emergency department care.
Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
Ward 116/118 is a 42 bedded Unit that provides specialist care in neuroscience, vascular, interventional radiology, obstetrics, hepatobiliary, transplant, GI and emergency department care. The Royal Infirmary is also a major trauma centre supporting the South East Scotland major trauma network.
