Clinical Support Workers

Clinical support workers play a key role in providing high quality patient care. There are opportunities to work in various services and specialities: Critical Care, ICU, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Theatres, these are just a few of the examples where clinical support workers work as part of a team made up of consultants, nurses, clinicians and non-clinical staff.

What would I do as a Clinical Support Worker

As a Modern Apprentice as a Clinical Support Worker, you would provide personal care for patients whilst being supported by senior staff. You would also maintain stock levels of all supplies and carry out housekeeping duties. You might also help administer simple dressings using sterile and non-sterile techniques as well as maintain written records and report and escalate issues if required.

What will you gain?

Depending on the programme you are on, you will either gain a SVQ Level 2 in Healthcare Support (Clinical) or a SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare Support (Clinical). You will embed the learnings into practice and develop a valuable range of skills and experiences. NHS Lothian have many exciting career opportunities and on successful completion of your apprenticeship, the Workforce Development Team will be available to support you on your next step, whatever you choose.
