Midlothian Community Hospital (MCH) is at the heart of Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership. It’s a busy community hospital, providing a range of inpatient and outpatient services for people living in Midlothian.
Our outpatient services include various clinics for differing health needs, support groups including smoking cessation, X-ray facilities, and out-of-hours GP care and treatment. The hospital also provides a base for different community teams such as the Lothian Unscheduled Care Service, and the Hospital at Home Team.
The hospital provides inpatient care across five wards for older people who require support with their physical and/or mental wellbeing. This includes intensive medical rehabilitation, complex care for frail elderly and step up/down care, along with mental health assessment for both functional and organic conditions, and complex care for people with advanced dementia.
Glenlee and Edenview Wards
Glenlee and Edenview are both 20 bedded wards which offer single room ensuite accommodation to their patients.
Both wards offer rehabilitation services to patients who have undergone orthopedic surgery, stroke or require support with ongoing medical conditions.
The multidisciplinary team (OT’S, Physio’s, SALT, Dietician, Podiatry etc) delivers true patient centered care and this is also enhanced with the role of activities coordinators, in both areas.
Both wards have access to roof top gardens.
Loanesk Ward
Loanesk is a 16 bedded area with single room ensuite accommodation. Some patients are admitted for end of life care and palliation and others are admitted as HBCCC patients (Hospital Based Complex Clinical Care).
Loanesk is a bright and welcoming ward which strives to deliver gold standard care to its patients. The ward also has a lovely, charming garden which is utilised by patients and staff alike to promote patients wellbeing.
Hospital at Home
The aim of Midlothian Hospital at Home is to provide an alternative to hospital or facilitate early discharge home for the older adults in Midlothian. We have robust links with our colleagues within Midlothian, which offers provision for an intensive rehabilitation service either in the home or within The Intermediate Care Bed Unit (Highbank Care Home).
Philosophy of care
H@H will offer an assessment of medical and immediate care needs in the patient’s own home using a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach during the acute phase of illness.
A ‘person-centred’ approach will underpin all team activities, ensuring safe and effective clinical assessment and treatment delivered by specialist practitioners in a competent and compassionate manner.
We will aim to ensure that patient individuality and wishes can be met through the planning of treatment and care appropriate to the person’s needs and their environment with full involvement of relatives and carers where appropriate.
Support and Clinical Facilitation
Midlothian Community Hospital has a dedicated Education Facilitator, who will support with all pre and post registration learning requirements and needs for all staff within MCH.
We will aim for you to work with a named mentor/ buddy as much as possible, however all our Nurses are able to support you, so there will always be someone to help, guide and feedback to you on your practice. You will have the opportunity to identify any learning opportunities, along with getting support for any aspect of work you may have.
